Since Levi Strauss and Jacob Davies developed jeans all the way back in 1873, denim jeans have become the garment we reach for at the weekend. They are attractive, hard-wearing and versatile, so it’s no wonder that we spend so much time in them, and so much money on them. In the US alone about 450 million pairs of jeans are bought each year.
But what do you wear when you get bored of jeans? Is there really a comfortable, suitably casual alternative? Lissie, who blogs at GrungetoGoddess has some ideas for those who have the denim blues.
Treggings are a really good choice. Leggings can feel a bit thin and don’t wear that well, but treggings are made of sterner stuff and don’t feel quite as tight. New Look have some brilliant ones in-store that are comfortable, look good and are not too expensive, such as these ones.
I’m a huge fan of cords, not the type that your geography teacher wears, but slim fit and high-waisted like these Jamie cords from TopShop.
They wear well, so you don’t have to worry about ruining them, they are comfortable and they look good in a geeky sort of way. The other advantage they have over jeans is that they look great in bright colours like these ones from Bench .
Bright denim can seem a tad OTT, while bright corduroy looks quirky and fun. And there is something about the softness that appeals to the snuggler in me.
Top of the class, especially as spring approaches, is the chino. They are very light, fit well and are comfortable.
They also look good with pretty much anything you would wear with jeans. These ones from H&M kids are just brilliant.
Not only are they cheap, but they come in a far wider range of colours than jeans. Another great pair are these from Matalan.
The roll up leg makes chinos versatile, so you can wear them with most shoes and tops.
Not only that, they fit better than jeans and look smarter. In fact, they are much comfier than jeans.
So, next time you come home from school and change out of your uniform, or are going to meet your friends at the weekend and feel like a change, instead of reaching for your denim favourites, why not take a chance on my top three?
I promise you won’t regret it!
really cool! they look gr8! 🙂
They all look really good!
I think they all look good but I have coloured jeans and I like them also you need to think about the fabric
