Alice Gives Advice – Written By You

Alice M is 10 years old, and has some great advice on being a girl

The Joy about being a girl is you get more opportunities because people mostly trust girls better than boys. I know that it majorly sexist but technically that is what happens in life.

We all know that girls have to go through a HARD time when they are older but it is sometimes worth it, GIRLS are the ones that actually produce the baby, GIRLS are the ones who have super fashion sense and are the ones who are unique with any kind of style Goth, jumpy, and get have any personality they want to and we wear make-up to make ourselves look nice, scary, horrible anything you want, we can style hair, have fun and mess around.

Some people don’t like being girls mostly because their scared, I am too, but if you think about it there generally is nothing to be afraid of. You have people all along the way to help you enter adulthood and become bigger and better, people will help you when it is hard and when you need constant monitoring but after all that has passed, I will guarantee that you will have had the time of your LIFE being a girl.

So what I am trying to say is: enjoy being a girl, enjoy having horrid things done to you (I know that sounds backwards but trust me, it I’ll be worth it) because when that is all over you’ll miss it.

Birds Eye View – Poetry Written By You

Hi, my name’s Daisy and I have a passion for writing and poetry.
One thing I like to write poems about are birds because they are such free and stunning creatures that fill the skies with their sweet sounding songs and happy chirps. I have written a poem about a bird flying in the Norfolk Countryside because that is where I live.
I wrote this poem when I was 10 years old.  I have now just turned twelve so although it is not one of my latest poems I would still like to share it with you. If you know Norfolk you might recognise some of the places in the poem.

Miles for Malala

Benita is 12 years old and has already raised over £400 for Malala, the young girl who was shot by the Taliban in Pakistan. This is Benita’s story.

I am called Benita and I’m twelve years old. I live with my mum, dad and younger brother. I go to school on my school bus. At school I like to study English and art. I don’t really know what I want to be yet although I know that it will probably be something to do with English. I’m not under any immediate threat for anything.

Malala started writing a blog for the BBC when she was eleven, she wrote about her daily life being controlled by the Taliban. She didnt reveal her name until later on.

She lives with her mum, dad and two younger brothers. Her dad is a teacher and encouraged her to keep on going. She has won quite a few awards for peace and bravery.

In some areas of Pakistan and other countries, the Taliban dont allow girls to go to school wear bright colours or speak to men on the streets otherwise there could be some serious punishments. They include being stoned to death or shot. Even though the Taliban might shoot them if they find out, Malala and her friends went to school. They didnt wear school clothes as that would make it obvious they were going to school.

Malala spoke out against the Taliban which made her a threat. The Taliban decided that they would have to shoot her. They got on to her bus and shot her in the head and shot some of her friends as well. She is now in a critical condition but is getting better. If you were a girl in Malala’s country how would you feel to not be allowed to go to school, say what you want or wear what you want. I think that Malala is very brave and that is why I am supporting her, her family and her friends because, as girls, we dont deserve to be treated unfairly.

I am doing a ten mile walk in aid of Malala and the country she lives in. It will be hard as I’ve never done a ten mile walk before however we are stopping at a café half way.  If you want to sponsor me I have a just giving page called Miles for Malala

Benita completed the ten mile walk on Sunday 11th November and has until time of publishing raised £416

The Fall – A Short Story in Three Parts – Part Three

This is the third of a three part story by 10 year old Alice. Read Part One and Part Two first.

My view is hazy, but I can work out the blurry shape of a nurse, standing by my bed. My eyelids shut; the light was stinging my eyes.

“Hello?” The voice is soft. I decide to answer.

“Hello,” I answer.

“I’m Josie,” says the nurse, pulling up a chair beside the bed. “What’s your name?”

“Kieran,” I reply, chewing my lip.

“Well, Kieran, you’ve been through a lot,” she says. She feels my forehead. “You had a raging fever you know. How do you feel now?”

The Fall – A Short Story in Three Parts – Part Two

The second of a three part short story. If you missed the beginning, start reading here

My hands have no feeling.

My feet up to my lower thigh is numb. My stomach and chest is icy cold. I feel so light-headed I might as well faint. I have propped up my rigid body by a peeling black-painted gate which is pricking my back.

Someone stole my blanket, and now I am as good as a chunk of ice.
